Mother's Day Rose's

Mother's Day is this Sunday which is always the perfect excuse to officially kick off Rose season. Soon the sun will be shining bright, people will start getting Hampton ready and that pretty pink drink will be in glasses everywhere.  With the liquor stores stocking so many roses this time of year finding the perfect one can be tough.  I could suggest you just join the masses and bring Whispering Angel to every party but why do that when there’s so many great local rose producers right here in New York.   Here are my picks for a few delicious, local summer suppers sure to please Mom:

Nothing sends out summer vibes more than Wolffer Estate's Summer in a Bottle.  This incredible wine is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer giving it juicy, ripe flavors of peaches, pear and melon with a long elegant finish.  This wine is absolutely bursting with fruity goodness and the bottle design is sure to delight Mom.  This wine tends to sell out quickly so I suggest enjoying Sunday and stocking up for those late summer months.

This bubbly wine comes from the gorgeous Croteaux Vineyards in the North Fork of Long Island; the only winery in the United States dedicated to solely producing Rose wines.  Their entire line-up is fabulous but I especially  love the “Jolie” made from Cabernet Franc grapes.  It’s got a much fuller body than most roses with big, bold flavors of wild berries with a dry finish.  It’s the perfect rose for those summer occasions where a little extra celebration is necessary.

Quite a strange name for a wine but this was the location where Founders Julie and Gregg Rothberg met.  Julie was training for a century ride and Gregg was her coach.  Ten months after meeting on this corner every morning to train the two were engaged and their love for wine found its roots in this gorgeous Grenache.   I love that they named their wine after this NYC street corner, I love that it’s juicy and crisp with notes of raspberry and I love that they suggest pairing it at picnics with Prince’s Purple Rain.

This pale pink rose is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir grapes boasting flavors of white peach, strawberry and watermelon with a long, dry finish.  This is an easy going and versatile wine perfect for pairing with just about any food and available by the bottle, box and even keg option for those really big rose parties of summer.
