NYC Tastes

We were invited to dinner at Riverpark last weekend and I was reminded once again how wonderful this restaurant is in the evening.  The large square room was decorated with sexy candles, moonlight shimmered on the water outside and jazz music played overhead as we perused the menu.  I began with a fresh Avocado & Hamachi Salad dotted with smokey chile's and bright pickled onions... ....then onto the Grilled Flatiron Steak & Smoked Wagyu Brisket for my entree.  I loved having two totally different types of meat on the plate...one incredibly juicy and tender, the other slightly fatty with a nice smokey char. The pepper-chili salad and creamy corn gave the dish a casual "picnic in the park" feel, but make no mistake this was much better than any food I've been served at a picnic. After a crazy night celebrating the Giants Superbowl victory I used my much needed vacation day for the last RW lunch of winter.  To begin a bright Chardonnay and a house made iced tea. Mr. T's appetizer the Charred Eggplant & Goat Cheese Bruschetta. I'm not a huge eggplant fan but I really enjoyed the charred flavor on this and the combination of creamy cheese with just a bit of honey on top for added sweetness.  For my appetizer I went safe but delicious with the Cesar Salad. Safe since I ordered this last year here for RW.  Delcious because it's truly one of the best Cesar salads going.  Huge chunks of Parmesan, great creamy dressing and a little bit of crunch from some bread crumbs.  Yum!  Onto entrees Mr. T's Fried Chicken sandwich with pickled vegetables, aioli and fries. It's supposed to be an absolutely gorgeous weekend filled with sunny skies so I thought I'd give you some great outdoor food ideas to enjoy every second of it! First up Madison Square Market which closes up shop on Friday. I stopped by for one last Asia Dog the other day and got The Mash- an all beef dog with spicy ketchup, jalapeno mustard and crushed up salt and pepper potato chips. Can you say delicious!!! OMG I loved this even more than the Wangding- I'm a firm believer that ketchup NEVER belongs on a hot dog but this changed my opinion forever. Over in Midtown you can check out the new BeerParc and enjoy one of the games on the Giant 35 ft. Screen. They have about 10 different beers on tap and food carts from Fatty Snacks, Edi & the Wolf and Thai food from Harold Dieterle. I woke up bright and early Thursday morning to find an enormous blanket of snow outside and all city schools closed. Since my work closes when schools close- I had a snow day! To be honest I was pretty angry at first- I have a ton of stuff going on right now and really wanted to get it finished. However it was out of my hands- fate had another plan for me that day and once I remembered it was Restaurant Week, my anger diminished completely. I started my day with a nice walk through Madison Square Park that was looking absolutely beautiful from the storm. I love when snow covers the city. Everything turns so quiet and lovely. I contemplated making a snow man but decided I wasn’t quite dressed for such a task and walked over to Eataly instead. Walking inside Eataly was a totally different experience since the snowfall as well. Instead of the lively hustle and bustle that usually greets me, I entered a clam, warming sanctuary.
