The Happiest of Hours at the Mermaid Inn

Image
We swung by Mermaid Inn last week to indulge in their seafood happy hour.  I usually order the $1 oysters but decided to switch it up with some Littleneck Clams.   Mr. T went his usual route with a piping hot basket of Fried Calamari... ...then we split their delicious Lobster Sandwich with lots of mayo and super skinny fries.  I love how the Mermaid Inn always splits the dish for you...it saves me from trying to sneak the bigger piece:)     A meal at the Mermaid Inn is never complete without a free cup of chocolate pudding and the little fish fortune teller. As usual Mr. T's fish flopped around in his hand while mine laid there dead.  I have no idea why those things never work for me. Mermaid Inn is always a great choice for Happy Hour and for this week only it's been extended.  Starting tomorrow Happy Hour will run from 4:00-7:00 in the East Village... a whole extra hour to get happy!   The Mermaid Inn

Mr. T and I enjoyed an early dinner the other day at the Mermaid Inn and made use of a fantastic Blackboard Eats coupon as well. For only $1 I bought a coupon that entitled us to 30% off our meal and a free drink for each of us. Score! Both of us completely finished our plates which is big for Mr. T who isn’t exactly a salad fan. For my main course I ordered the Seared Montauk Skate with organic root vegetables, caper berry and soy brown butter sauce. I thought this dish was executed perfectly. The skate was moist and the addition of soy to the brown butter sauce gave it a nice salty flair that I really enjoyed. Mr. T. ordered the Grilled Alaskan King Salmon...

So in case you can't tell we've been on a big lobster roll kick lately. I know we have to stop, but Mr. T's brother and sister-in-law where visiting from Florida so it was a great excuse. We were meeting friends later in the East Village so The Mermaid Inn seemed like the most logical choice. We showed up at 6:00 and got a table right away in their back patio. The patio itself was small but nice. It did seem a little like we were sitting in the back of someone's house but in a good way. We started out with a bottle of the SOAVE 2005, La Cappuccina . This was an Italian white wine that was extremely crisp with lots of citrus. It was perfect for the humid, hot weather we were having. We were all starving so decided to skip out on appetizers and head straight for the entrees. Three of us ordered the lobster sandwich and one of us got the grilled M ahi M ahi . The lobster sandwich is exactly what it says- a sandwich. Instead of a hot dog bun it comes on a roll that...
