Happy Hour at Haru

Image
Haru not only has the longest happy hour special in our neighborhood but also one of the best.  From 3:00-7:00 every day they have great deals on wine, beer and specialty cocktails along with a brand new menu of happy hour bites. Like these crispy fish tacos which come two to an order and filled with Tuna, Sea Bass or Salmon. They're bright, clean and surprisingly filling with a ton of sashimi inside.  If your not feeling the sushi option they also have a few cooked dishes like their garlic chicken wings. They're surprisingly large and crispy...much bigger than I see at some wing spots around the city, with a distinctive garlic kick that has just a bit of heat from the spicy jalapeno on top.  I took the slice off but you could make your even more spicy by eating it whole.   For only $8.00 this is a fantastic deal.  Add on a few rolls and you have a whole dinner for two with drinks for under $50.00.   Haru Sushi

Holiday Drinks!

We’ve done the Rockefeller Center guide but what about some good old fashioned holiday cocktails! First up the classic Egg Nog at Maialino. This delicious frothy drink is a little lighter than most versions and gets a nice dose of nutmeg and cinnamon. Truth be told this picture is from me enjoying last years- hopefully they’ll put it back on the menu soon! Looking for something a little lighter on the waistline? Try Northern Spy in the East Village. This cozy little place specializes in aperitif-driven cocktails- which basically means tasty drinks with a little less alcohol than most cocktails. Usually made from a sherry base or Lillet blanc, Chris Ronis’s creations allow you to enjoy the festive flavors of the year without waking up with that holiday hangover! How about their Salvadoran Fence made from Jalapeño infused Lillet blanc, Punt e Mes, watermelon, basil, lime and Asgoatura bitters. However a little something stronger may be needed when dealing with all the f...

Happy Friday Happy Hour!!!

Image
What's better than being done with work for the weekend...a tasty cocktail to celebrate with!!! And one seriously tasty cocktail is the Komodo Dragon from Haru Sushi. It's a blend of Svedka Vanilla, coconut rum, pineapple juice and blue curaçao. It leans slightly toward the sweeter side but I find the combination absolutely wonderful. Especially when it's cold and rainy outside what's better than pretending to be far away with a tropical drink. The best part about the Komodo Dragon- it's only $7 during Haru's Happy hour! Second best part- happy hour at Haru is every single day from 3-7. So even on a Saturday you can swing by and indulge. So instead of just happy Friday have a happy week!
