Brunching at The Smith

I always get a little stressed out when I'm asked to pick a spot to eat near the Lincoln Center.  There are a lot of great places in that area for sure but I find so many of them to be overpriced and geared towards the tourist crowd.  Luckily the Smith opened its doors a few years ago and although it is also overpriced in my opinion it is easily the best brunch spot in the area that consistently cranks out delicious food with excellent service. Hot Potato Chips layered with a blue cheese fondue and blue cheese crumbles...  ...a decadent Breakfast Pot Pie stuffed with sweet sausage, bacon, eggs and cremini mushrooms encased in a fluffy cheddar biscuit...   ...and the Simple Scramble with home fries and crispy smoked bacon.  Not exactly a healthy meal but certainly a satisfying start to the weekend. Brunch at The Smith

My friend Kristin was in town for a visit which means lots cheese eating at Eataly, trips to Momofuku for cake truffles and most important of all- brunch! The Smith was absolutely packed when we arrived right around noon on Sunday.  Luckily I had reserved through  Opentable  well in advance so we only had to wait about 10 minutes for our table to be ready.  We spent this time at the bar drinking some much deserved mimosas. I was leaning towards a brunch favorite The Croaker but the Breakfast Scramble won out in the end.  Two fluffy eggs, crisp bacon, microgreens and some incredibly crunchy home fries...this was just about as perfect as it gets at brunch time. The only thing to make it even better was an extra side of candied bacon complete with a brown sugar maple syrup glaze. Service at The Smith was phenomenal.  Our water was always replenished, the food came and was taken away quickly and our waiter was just downright friendly.  ...

Sunday at The Smith

We had some last minute house guests on Saturday night which was nice. Why so nice? Well first of all because it was one of my best friends but also because this friend loves something just as much as I do- brunch!!! Mr T hates brunch. He literally despises it for no reason. So the only time I get to enjoy this meal is when we have company. I was excited to go and eat some Croques at one of our favorite brunch spots Resto but I called and it was all booked up. I had heard that The Smith had been getting some good brunch reviews so we headed down there instead. We got to there right around 12:15 and squeaked in before the big brunch crowd and were seated right away. The Smith offers a free cockail wth each meal and had a bigger selection than just your avaerage bloody mary. I decided to order a bellini while the rest of the table got the blood orange mimosa's I have to say I was a little jealous when the mimosa'a came out. They looked so good with that fuzzy red orange color. ...
