Chocolat Moderne

I was lucky enough to be invited to Chocolat Moderne for a private tasting last week.  I walked in and Joan and her husband gave me a warm greeting like we were old friends.   Since my last visit they've had some incredible success such as winning the Sofie Gold Award for their Lime Moderne Bar.

The bitter dark chocolate and sweet butter toffee seem to meld together perfectly with the addition of acidic lime juice.  But don't stop there... honestly it gets even better.

If you like a little kick to your chocolate the Kashmir Spice infused with Cardamon and Cloves would be an excellent choice.

I always like a little salty with my sweet so the coarse sea salt bar with almonds was right up my alley.

I almost tried to take this tray home with me :)

Another Sofie Award winner was their Karma Sutra Hot Chocolate which placed Silver.

But I stuck with the signature chocolates when I suddenly found my two favorite of the day.

On the right a Kalamata Olive chocolate from their Greek Revival Collection made from soft caramel, sea salt and olive oil.  Something about the combination of bitter and brine was just fabulous!  The second was this gorgeous white chocolate rose filled with caramel and passion fruit ganache.

Joan created this based off the flavors in her wedding cake.  She's hoping to create more for newlyweds- what a great idea for an anniversary gift!

I seriously think Joan is making some of the best chocolate in New York City today.  Each piece has a different story to tell like the Dark Chocolate with Grapefruit reminiscent of her grandmother or the Lychee a creation after having a Lychee Martini in the East Village one day.   It's a great little place to stop in and check out if you need a new exciting chocolate fix.
