NYC Tastes

I always put a lot of thought into what to enjoy for the first game of the season.  One year is was Lobel's, last year it was Carl's and this year Parm was the perfect choice. This hefty meatball parm tastes just as wonderful as it looks.  Made from a mix of beef, veal and sweet Italian sausage.  This flattened meatball has a nice pink middle and lots of sauce and melted cheese.  The bottom bun gets soaked quickly but each one is made to order so you should be okay.  This simply reinforces my will to eat at the actual Parm and Torrisi in the city.  Someday Soon!

My Memorial Day weekend started off with a bang at Yankee Stadium Friday night, where Mr. T and I watched them beat the Indians 8-2. Of course I missed the Robinson Cano grand slam. I just had to use the bathroom at that very moment and I missed it. It really never fails- that stuff always happens to me. To make up for it Mr. T got me a nice big McSorley’s and a hot dog at the game. The dog was just your standard Nathans but such a better choice than my cheese steak last time. Games are meant for hot dogs…and didn’t he do a nice photogenic job of putting the mustard on!   Oh and yes- they had full flowing kegs of Goose Island and McSorleys. Apparently they learned that people really like these beers and they were fully prepared to stay in stock unlike last time. The rest of my weekend was filled with friends visiting, multiple brunches, lots of beer drinking and just relaxing on the roof. I came back to work Tuesday not quite happy but a little refreshed. So we made it to Yankee Stadium for the second home game this year. I love getting in a game early. I just can’t truly get into a new season until I’ve felt the sun shine on my face and smelled the glorious stadium odors of hot dogs, peanuts and frothy beer. Of course I come to watch the Yankees play as well- I just get excited about the food. The first thing I saw new this year was a stand with a good variety of beers on tap and in bottle that was NOT Beers of the World. Look at that- Goose Island IPA! On Draft!! I was so excited we tried to grab one right before the start of the game but lo and behold they were sold out! Sold out of your draft beer already! On the second day of play before the game even began! That’s just crazy. Did they only order one keg for the season? Ridiculous. I had to settle for a Goose Island Honkers Ale. Still good but no IPA. I went to the Yankee game on Tuesday (we realized we had a pair of tickets to the game 20 minutes before it started) and decided to try out the Garlic fries. Whoa!! These guys are intense! Now I am a garlic lover so when I saw all that luscious chopped up goodness on top I was psyched. I chowed down on some fresh off the top and was quite a happy camper. Then somewhere around bite number four or so the strong taste began to get to me. I started to feel little overwhelmed with the flavor so I dug down below to find some that were plain. That’s when I realized- there were no plain!! The entire box was uniformly covered in garlic from head to toe. I was a little shocked and both Mr. T and I could not see eating this whole on its’ own. So we decided to do what any food loving couple would do. Before we left for Europe we went to the second home Yankee game of the year. I got there early to check out the new stadium and specifically the food. My first stop was Lobel's for some meat. Look at him cutting up those huge pieces of meat! They make every sandwich to order and then pour a nice au jus right on the top. Nice!!! Here's a picture of the $16.00 sandwich. Bite already taken out of course. The sandwich was huge and very fresh but for $16.00 I wasn't blown away. The meat was very tasty but it was almost a little too rare. Mr. T and I both had trouble even biting into the thing because the meat was so chewy. We decided to supplement our sandwich with some fries and a cheeseburger from Johnny Rockets. The fries were surprisingly crispy and fresh as well! Much better than the old Yankee stadium fries. The burger was pretty good as well. It had a lots of toppings so I couldn't really taste the flavor of the meat but after a couple of beers this is a tasty option...
