Time for Another Pizza Face Off at Eataly

Image
It’s Monday again!  Yes that’s excitement because for 5 more weeks at least I can look forward to Eataly’s A Quattro Mani!  Mr. T and I went last week and ordered one signature pie from Eataly and one from guest pizzeria Motorino. We tried to stick to similar pies so we could judge more fairly the pros and cons of each.  For Eataly it was the Bottarga & Porri with cherry tomato sauce, sautéed leeks, mozzarella di bufala and bottarga. Wow- look at the combination of sauce, crust and cheese on this pizza.  I absolutely loved the cheese and found the sautéed leeks and cherry tomatoes interesting since it gave the pizza a sweeter flavor than usual.  The crust had a nice car and chew to it as well which was really surprising.  Onto Motorino we had to order our favorite Brussels Sprout & Pancetta with Fior di latte, garlic pecorino and smoked pancetta. Okay look at the char on this crust- I mean it’s really hard to beat something like th...

More Motorino for Me

After a beer filled and raucous Saturday night (no we were not at Sanatacon but still managed to get a little crazy) we were all struggling on Sunday. I barely moved my poor body out to the couch for football watching and after the 1:00 games were over we all collectively decided to take a nap. Around 5:30 pm, the sun had gone down and I rolled back out of bed feeling better. It was my friend’s last night in the city and we had some more serious eating and drinking to accomplish. Luckily everyone was feeling much better after their own naps and just one hour later we were out the door and heading for my friends last request- pizza. I had planned for us to eat at Posto actually but there was a 30 minute wait when we arrived! I wasn’t in a waiting mood, that’s for sure, so instead we walked down to Motorino where only about half the tiny space was filled. Our first pizza of the night was Motorino’s Margherita with tomato, mozzarella and basil. The first thing you’ll notice about th...

Pizza Bliss at Motorino

The Manhattan outpost of Motorino just opened a few months ago in the old Una Pizza Napoletana space. Saturday night after some fireside drinks at Shoolbreds we decided to walk over. We showed up around 7:00 and there was a 15 minute wait. The hostess suggested we get a drink next door and she came and got us when our table was ready. That was really nice. I always feel bad hovering over people while you wait for a table in small little restaurants. Three of us were dining tonight so we decided to split two appetizers and two pizzas. No we are not pigs- the pizzas are actually pretty small. I was really excited to see the Montly Cru red on the wine list from Brooklyn Oenology. I bought a couple bottles last time they were at the New Amsterdam Market and they were fantastic. Brooklyn Oenology specializes in New York State wines with original artwork from Brooklyn on their labels. The neatest thing is that their labels peel off so you can keep the art once the bottle is fin...
