The Dough'ssant

Image
Cronut knock offs are a dime a dozen in this town, none of which are any good, except one...the Dough'ssant from Chikalicious. The outside is crunchy, dusted in sugar with a swirl of vanilla icing on top while inside sits layers of soft, fluffy dough filled with a fresh vanilla bean creme. It's light and airy, much more of a croissant than a doughnut with a fantastic eggy custard that wasn't overly sweet.  This is a fantastic alternative if you don't feel like waiting in line and a delicious way to start your morning. Chikalicious is one of these awesome spots that somehow always falls under my radar. I was literally walking right past the other day and almost missed it! Luckily the smell of hot chocolate and baked goods lured me inside. I almost always get one of their amazing cupcakes but this time I wanted something different. Some Petits Fours perhaps? I decided upon the Strawberry Shortcake and Caramel Profiterole Tart. The Strawberry Shortcake was okay- maybe a little on the dry side but the Caramel Profiterole was awesome. The top had bites of crackly sugar like a cream brulee top and the caramel creme was just right. However at $2 each these are pretty expensive for what you get. Although I really enjoyed the Profiterole I would save my money next time for the Cupcakes. Or possibly the cookies. They had one called The Situation that has salty pretzel bits, toffee popcorn and peanut butter chips. That's some kind of situation I could handle! Dessert Club Chikalicious

Sundaes at Chikalicious Dessert Club

It was a freezing cold Wednesday night but for some reason I was seriously craving an ice cream sundae. Where to get a sundae that won’t completely chill my bones but satisfy my needs? Chikalicious Dessert Club of course. I love Chikalicious. The main Dessert Bar is great for a luxurious dessert experience, but when you need your sweet fix quick, the shop across the street is the way to go. They have everything- caramel and smores cupcakes, green tea grand mariner cake, chocolate eclairs, vanilla custard and most importantly for me sundaes.   I decided to order the Espresso Ice Sundae. First off, Chiklicious vanilla soft serve is awesome. I don’t know what they do but it’s really natural tasting and not super sweet. It’s possibly the best soft serve in the city. Then they top that with pearls of chocolate and a shot of decaf espresso. This is the perfect sundae to get on a chilly winter night. The espresso warms up your tummy while the ice cream and pearls satisfy th...

Cuppy Cakes!!!

I have been dying to go to ChikaLicous ever since it opened but there always seems to be a huge line whenever I try. Then I realized they had opened up another store- right across the street where I could try out some of their goodies to go! How nice! I swung by the other day and the choices were overwhelming. Cookies, Pudding, Creme Brulee, Cheesecake. I literally wanted everything I saw. I finally decided to go with some cupcakes. I got two of the premium ones- the Smores and Caramel. What make these Premium? The inner filling. Check out the Smores. This truly tasted like a toasted Smores from my youth. Graham Cracker cake, dark chocolate center and topped with a slightly burnt tasting marshmallow frosting. Yum! I really didn't think it would get better than this but then I tried the Caramel. Wow! I think I liked this even better. The caramel center was sticky, sweet and utterly delicious. This was some intense caramel flavor inside such a little cake. The best part about these c...
