Pies 'n Thighs- Canal Street

Image
One of my favorite Williamsburg spots has expanded across the bridge to the Lower East Side and I couldn't be happier.  Pie's & Thighs set up a new shop right on Canal Street offering all the things I love in the world...that decadent Bourbon Pecan Pie, those thick cheesy grits and my absolute favorite sandwich the Chicken Biscuit. One big crispy chicken cutlet slathered with hot sauce and honey butter then sandwiched between a warm buttery biscuit.  It's not so pretty to look at and eating it can be quite messy but it's so worth it for each incredible bite. Bonus points to the Canal Street spot for having extra hot sauce and honey on each table for those of us who like it extra saucy.  Plus this new location is just blocks away from craft beer bar Top Hops. Chicken Biscuit and beer...it just doesn't get much better than that. Pies N Thighs 43 Canal Street between Orchard & Ludlow New York, NY 10002

Pies 'n' Thighs

Mr. T and I did a little beer crawl across Williamsburg last weekend and ended at one of my favorite stops of all time- Pies 'n' Thighs.  I've talked about this amazing sandwich before remember ....it would probably be my last meal on earth if I had to choose. Crispy Fried Chicken breast, slathered with spicy hot sauce and honey butter all sandwiched inside a fluffy biscuit.  This is what I dream about at night...seriously. We usually get some extra cheesy Mac and Cheese as a side and add on a Cobb Salad for something a little green...and of course there's always pie!  One slice of boozy bourbon pecan pie with dark chocolate and a dollop of fresh made whipped cream on top.  It really gets no better than this. Taste of Williamsburg Greenpoint

Image
It was a gorgeous day Sunday- bright and crisp with the smell of autumn in the air.  The best time of year for drinking beer, watching sports and checking out food festivals.   Things at Taste Of Williamsburg/Greenpoint didn't start out very well.  The event staff seemed disorganized and confused which resulted in quite a long line just to enter but once inside the actual event things seemed to go more smoothly. I walked in and went straight to Pie's N' Thighs for one of their amazing mini Chicken Biscuits. Spicy fried chicken and honey butter biscuits....it seriously doesn't get much better than that.  If I had to decide what to get for my last meal on Earth this sandwich would immediately come to mind. After that I walked over to the Sindicato De Cocineros stand and tried their gazpacho and  fluke ceviche. I was pleasantly surprised by the melon flavor in the soup and the ceviche was spot on as well. Then I did a trio of spreads from Cafe ...

First Bite of Hester Street- Pies "N" Thighs

It's Friday!!!  The weekend is upon on and although Cinco de Mayo and the Derby are right around the corner don't forget Hester Street Fair started back up last Saturday as well. Yes it's crowded and the lines can look daunting but it's worth it for the spicy, sweet Chicken Sandwich from Pies "N" Thighs.  Something about the combination of the flaky honey butter biscuit and hot red sauce make it the best $6 sandwich possible.  I'll happily start my weekend like this any day.  Hester Street Fair

Chicken Sandwich from Pies and Thighs

What can I say about this glorious little sandwich? I was apprehensive at first. I thought it was simply going to be fried chicken on a bun- simple. However when I watched it being made I saw them slather on some red sauce I became concerned. It looked and smelled exactly like Frank’s Red Hot sauce! Luckily looks can be deceiving because the sauce was excellent. It was slightly spicy like Franks but more sweet and light. I was also amazed how moist the chicken was inside. Somehow the buttermilk batter retained all those juices and this was possibly the best chicken sandwich I have ever had! Seriously! I’m so sad I got it the last day of the Madison Square market. I would have been there every day if I had known before. Luckily the original is out in Williamsburg and I am definitely making the trip out there. Pie’s and thighs here I come. Pies and Thighs
