Today’s sweet treat come all the way to NYC from Maine! Feast your eyes on some REAL Whoopee Pies!!! Okay I’m not a Whoopee Pie expert, but if I’m going to indulge in one, this is the kind I’d like to eat. The Cranberry Island pies are sold in the freezer section of the Lobster Place in Chelsea Market. All natural ingredients and a beachy seashell shaped case make these whoopee pies stand out from the rest. Even though the pies were in the freezer section after only about 15 minutes of rest time the cake was pliable and moist. The cold inner filling was not only refreshing but insanely delicious! I really felt like I was in the Florida Keys enjoying a fresh slice of key lime pie! The entire Whoopee pie was lighter than most and the filling to cake ratio was perfect. They carry Chocolate pies at the market as well but I would be hard pressed to pass up the lemon lime. So there you have it! A little bit of Maine right in our own backyard. You know what I suggest? After my somewhat tepid experience with the spicy tuna roll at the Lobster Place last time I decided to go back and see if it was just a fluke. After all, it was the day after a three day weekend. So the fish freshness may not have been up to par. I was going tom get the same thing but then I noticed a Spicy Yellowtail roll being offered. I had never even heard of Spicy Yellowtail being offered anywhere before. I love Yellowtail and with the addition of some spice and mayo what’s not to love. And I was correct- on both accounts. The fish was extremely fresh, yellowtail goes just as well spicy style as tuna, and the tepid experience last week was a distant memory. I’m happy to have the Lobster Place on my regularly rotating lunch list.

My Memorial Day weekend started off with a bang at Yankee Stadium Friday night, where Mr. T and I watched them beat the Indians 8-2. Of course I missed the Robinson Cano grand slam. I just had to use the bathroom at that very moment and I missed it. It really never fails- that stuff always happens to me. To make up for it Mr. T got me a nice big McSorley’s and a hot dog at the game. The dog was just your standard Nathans but such a better choice than my cheese steak last time. Games are meant for hot dogs…and didn’t he do a nice photogenic job of putting the mustard on!   Oh and yes- they had full flowing kegs of Goose Island and McSorleys. Apparently they learned that people really like these beers and they were fully prepared to stay in stock unlike last time. The rest of my weekend was filled with friends visiting, multiple brunches, lots of beer drinking and just relaxing on the roof. I came back to work Tuesday not quite happy but a little refreshed. Sunday was out last full day to enjoy Provincetown so after chowing down on those wonderful malasadas we decided that one more meal of fresh lobster was in order.  We just happened to be right next door to the Lobster Place enjoying some drinks at a dive bar so I figured why the hell not. I heard the lobster was some of the best in town if you could handle the touristy, family atmosphere. Luckily we got seated upstairs right near the bar so most of the tables around us were people more our age and we had a little bit more space to move around than in the packed dining room.  They started us out with a nice bread basket filled with Pumpkin Squares and Some White Rolls. Their soup sounded really good so we ordered the Lobster Bisque and Clam Chowder. Wow this is one of the best Lobster Bisque I have ever tasted. It had a wonderful sweet aroma and a rich velvety texture that was simply perfect. Usually I feel weighed down by all of the cream in bisque but this one so...

I was working in my Manhattan office on Friday which is right outside the Meatpacking district. I love working here because it gives me the opportunity to walk over the Chelsea Market and peruse all the delicious offerings it houses during lunch time and possibly see some sort of Food Network star. Not that it usually happens. So far Paula Dean was the only one I ever saw there and she kind of looked like a robot so I got a little freaked out. Not the best experience. Anyway Friday I wandered around sampling Fat Witch Brownies and Cookies at Ruthy’s until I finally found myself in the Lobster Place. Apparently they renovated since the last time I was here and it looked quite different. There is a ton of more space up front and now they have a small stand in the back for ordering prepared foods.
