Ample Hills Creamery- The Raw Deal

Image
My domination of every Ample Hills Creamery flavor continues.  Since my  last post  I've had the wonderful Nonna D's Oatmeal Lace with brown butter cinnamon ice cream; the intense Salted Crack Caramel with butter caramel ice cream and chocolate butter saltines (too intense for Mr. T) and finally the Raw Deal- Vanilla Ice Cream with chocolate flakes and brown butter chocolate cookie dough. As you can see it looks a bit like a classic cookies and cream scoop but once you dig down deep the cookie dough balls emerge. I really liked the sweet flavor of the brown butter dough but I honestly thought there was a bit too much inside.  About halfway through the cup I was out of ice cream and had only balls of dough left. I'll hope for a better dough to ice cream ratio my next visit.  My favorite continues to be that incredible Sweet as Honey.  I'm not sure anything this summer will beat it- until next visit! Ample Hills- Sweet as Honey

Image
In my continuing quest to try every single Ample Hills flavor today brings a cup of one of their signature flavors the Sweet as Honey.  They take their homemade honeycomb candy and crush it all up into a sweet cream ice cream base.  Good lord this is AMAZING...it's got this fantastic sweet and satisfying crunch with each bite.  I honestly felt like I was eating a sundae since the honeycomb created a caramelized sauce that stuck to thick creamy base.  This may just be my favorite Ample Hill ice cream yet.  I also kind of love how you can see the shadow of my spoon looming in the background like Jaws coming in for the kill...Da Dum..Da Dum..Da Dum...DumDaDum!  (I may have had too much sugar).    Ample Hills Creamery Brooklyn Bridge Park and other locations throughout NYC

Getting the Munchies at Ample Hills

Image
Ample Hills is hands down the  best ice cream  in town.  And scorching hot days like today make my summer mission seem easy to accomplish...try each and every Ample Hills flavor.  This feat is going to be quite difficult given that they introduce new flavors almost every week and the fact I'm a bit lactose intolerant BUT until my stomach completely shuts down I'm giving it a whirl and kicking things off with The Munchies. Pretzel infused ice cream swirled with clusters of Ritz Crackers, potato chips, pretzels and mini M&M's.  It's a creamy delicious blend of butter, salt and chocolate....three of my favorite food groups.  I'm not sure how far I'll get but I'm certainly loving the start to this challenge! Best of 2014

This was a crazy and amazing year filled with lots of great food, friends and travel.  It began in January with a fantastic trip to San Diego with my parents.  They learned more about beer on that trip than they probably ever cared to know hitting up spots like Alpine, Ballast Point  and Societe Brewing .  Then Mr. T and I spent a few days in Florida  before embarking on an absolutely incredible trip to Copenhagen  and Brussels  with our close friends and certainly the best beer festival of my life the  Copenhagen Beer Celebration .  Add in a few trips to Buffalo,   Vermont  and Nashville  and I would say we've been pretty busy.  But in the end it's always NYC that holds the biggest spot in my heart.  This year the food was better than ever and with new breweries like  Third Rail  and  Other Half  joining the leagues of Peekskill, Kane and Barrier there's never been a better tim...

Ample Hills Creamery

I've been obsessing over something all week...something so wondrously delicious I get little goosebumps on my arms just thinking about it.  Toffee Bar Crunch from Ample Hills Creamery. Thick, creamy vanilla bean ice cream, laced with ribbons of caramel, crunchy chunks of toffee and milk chocolate.  It's sweet and buttery; much more of an adult delicacy then a childhood treat. They have two permanent locations in Brooklyn and one seasonal spot on Pier 5 in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Their flavors change every day but on my last visit they had a Mexican Hot Chocolate, Sweet as Honey and their signature Salted Crack Caramel that sounds downright dangerous. Incredible ice cream, NYC view...perfection! Ample Hills
