Tastes of Doughnut Plant Japan

Image
The tastes of Japan are currently taking over the menu at Doughnut Plants around the city in all kinds of wonderful creations. There are five different flavors: Black Sesame, Green Tea, Shiso, Azuki & Kinako and Yuzu all available as the big fluffy yeast doughnuts, the more compact cake doughnuts or the stuffed doughseeds.  We checked out the Black Sesame and Yuzu doughseed in addition to our regular Creme Brulee order.  All three were covered in a thick delicious glaze then stuffed full with sour yuzu cream, rich black sesame and creamy custard. All three were delicious but the yuzu stole my heart.  Ahhhh...Mornings that begin with Doughnut Plant can never be bad.  Doughnut Plant Various locations throughout NYC

Spring Doughnuts

I finally walked outside without my winter coat on today. The bright sun and warm breeze made me feel revitalized, ready to take on whatever the world had in store for me...and doughnuts. Because Spring means two fantastic seasonal flavors from Doughnut Plant.  The first a fluffy yeast doughnut with crushed roasted almonds on top and the second a glazed Meyer Lemon with just enough smooth citrus cream to make your mouth pucker just a bit.  Mmmm... Weekend Nemo Rations

Image
I love a good snow storm.  The city looks so beautiful after a nice thick layer of snow blankets all the buildings.  Just in case we get stuck inside today I made sure to pick up some delicious rations... ...like a big, fluffy Coconut Cream doughnut from Doughnut Plant...  ...and a nice milky, chocolate stout from Samuel Smiths.  It's almost like drinking a chocolate milkshake but with a little alcohol kick.  Enjoy the weekend!

More Delicious Fall Flavors at Doughnut Plant

I love Doughnut Plant.  There's nothing better than walking into the bakery and smelling that yeasty warm aroma of rising dough.  I planned on stopping in for a Creme Brulee but then I saw the Pumpkin Dough Seed and had no choice but to order both. The glazed cake doughnut was filled with a thick pumpkin custard and covered in candied pumpkin seeds.  Thank goodness I have no will power because this dough seed was incredible.  It just might be my favorite doughnut yet.  Plus I gave the Creme Brulee to Mr. T so we both ended up winners:) Doughnut Plant

Sometimes I Need a Doughnut or Three...

That's because there are so many delicious options at Doughnut Plant to get just one is almost impossible!  This weekend it was a two doughseeds- a Creme Brulee and Peanut Butter Banana Creme- and a big Coconut Creme. The Creme Brulee was a delicious as ever with its insanely crackly sugar top.  The Peanut Butter Banana Creme was good but honestly the Coconut Creme stole the show.  Cooling pockets of creme studded throughout the dough...Man oh man this one was downright heaven. New Flavors at Doughnut Plant

Look out world there’s two new flavors at Doughnut Plant and they’re pretty damn awesome- Banana Pecan and Matcha Green Tea. As you can see I was so excited to try these out I forgot to take a picture until after I bite the top of one- oops! If you’re familiar with their Tres Leches doughnut the Matcha is very similar in style with an moist interior and a thick crackly glaze on top. It’s just all matcha flavored instead of milk flavored and if you know me at all you know I love my matcha. The Banana Pecan doughnut was no joke either. Look at this beautiful fried dough studded with nuts and ‘naners. I loved the flavor combination but it was a little too sticky and big for me. I prefer a nice dense doughnut myself. Either way these are both fantastic treats that continue to make a celebration out of breakfast. Doughnut Plant

Sugar Overload at Doughnut Plant

I woke up Saturday morning and had one thought in my mind- Doughnuts!! Seriously I think I must have been dreaming about them because my craving was beyond ridiculous. I was going to try and ignore the craving but then I heard the news that my Grandmother passed away. I was feeling pretty down and decided that a good long walk and a sugary treat was maybe just what I needed. So I took a long walk from my apartment all the way down to Doughnut Plant in the Lower East Side. It was a beautiful day outside and with the sun on my back and crisp air in my face I felt about a hundred times better. It’s amazing what a good walk can do for your soul! Anyway I got to Doughnut Plant and the line was out the door. Luckily they move pretty quick here and it only took about 20 minutes for me to reach the front. I had one doughnut in mind to order but the same thing ended up happening to me that always happens to me at Doughnut Plant…I go Doughnut Insane. The next thing I know I’m ordering everyt...

Who's Eating All The Donuts?

So Mr. T and I had an excellent day yesterday traveling around Chinatown and the Lower East Side basically just getting different culinary treats which I'll post about later, but one of our big stops was to Doughnut Plant. Actually here's what happened. Friday night we came up with a plan to go to Chinatown and wander around and get some soup dumplings. I woke up Saturday morning and while Mr. T was getting ready I decided to see what was on TV. Saturday morning TV is pretty bad and the only 2 channels I usually check out are the Food Network (for obvious reason) and the Travel Channel (in hopes they will do something about food). Luckily for me they were! They had an entire show dedicated to doughnuts! I watched eagerly waiting to see if they would go to Doughnut Plant and of course they did!!! After watching all of that I knew we had to get some. So after Chinatown we wandered over to the store. It seems a lot of people watched that show because there was bigger line than usu...
