Brunch at Danji

Image
Finally- my favorite little Korean spot in Hell's Kitchen has starting serving brunch!  Which means I don't have to wait until 5:00 to get their incredible Ginger Scallion Tofu  or the wonderful Beef Bulgogi Sliders. Two potato buns stuffed with beef then topped with a spicy thick sliced pickled cucumber and scallion salsa- delicious! Along with those classic Danji staples they've added three different styles of Korean, Filipino and Mexican breakfast and a small list of brunch cocktails. This was only Danji's third week of brunch service and the place was already packed so make a reservation to ensure a seat or be prepared for a wait. Danji 346 West 52nd Street New York, NY 10019

An Old Favorite at Danji

I don't make it up to Hell's Kitchen nearly enough as I should.  There are so many spots I still need to try out like Bar Bacon, The Marshal and of course Anejo from one of my favorite chefs Angelo Sosa.  Yet when I found myself in the area just yesterday I immediately gravitated to my old haunt Danji.  This cozy little spot churns out amazing Korean food like crunchy Fried Chicken Wings in both spicy and garlic honey flavors; the best Bulgogi Beef Sliders in the city and one of my favorite vegetarian plates of all time the Tofu with Ginger Scallion Dressing. The tofu is lightly fried giving it a crispy warm exterior that gives way to such a silky smooth interior it can only be described as luxurious.  Then it's all topped off with slivers of jalapeno, crunchy tempura flakes and a sweet & salty soy vinaigrette.  This is an absolutely banging dish that I will  always find hard passing up. Lunch at Danji

I happened to be near Hell's Kitchen for work last week and found myself right outside Danji as they opened.  I took a seat at the small comfy bar up front and followed the wonderful recommendations of my waitress.  To begin Tofu with Ginger Scallion Dressing. I was a little apprehensive when this dish arrived since it looks different than what I had in mind but rest assured the waitress had steered me well.   Among the crispy scallion toppings and dressed with a salty soy vinaigrette was some of the best tofu I had ever eaten. Insanely silky and utterly smooth this dish was so good I immediately began going through the list of my vegetarian friends vowing to bring them all here as soon as possible. No longer sticking with the veggie lifestyle my Bulgogi Beef Sliders were excellent as well.  A spicy pickled cucumber and scallion salsa really brought a nice little heat to the meat.  These were delicious little sandwiches ...
