Everything Glorious at Katz's

Image
Have I talked about Katz's Deli yet?  Of course I have.  It's one of my favorite places in NYC and so good I think it deserves to get mentioned again.  It's just a no frills, down and dirty institution for incredible food like their famous pastrami sandwich. Mr. T is a purist just pastrami on white bread for him but I prefer mine in Reuban form... ...piled high with sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and Russian dressing with a couple of super snappy hot dogs on the side.  Just looking at these pictures make me feel all warm and happy inside :) Katz's Deli 205 East Houston Street New York, NY 10002

The Dish- Pastrami Reuban at Katz's Delicatessen

It's so easy to shrug off all the so called "tourist" spots in the city.  Whenever I mention going to Times Square, Rockefeller Center or god forbid SOHO during the holiday season, Mr. T looks at me like I'm insane.  But whenever I suggest Katz's, one of the biggest tourist spots of all time in NYC, he's always on board.  That's because Katz's is AMAZING.  I love the steaming Matzo Ball soup, the snappy casing on their hot dogs and the incredible Pastrami Reuben. The meat on this sandwich is stacked high and so tender it practically melts with a layer of Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and thousand island dressing on top.  I never liked Pastrami or Reuben's before I met this sandwich but now I'm in love.   Katz's Deli 205 East Houston Street @Ludlow New York, NY 10002

Return to Katz's

It's been way to long since I last stopped into Katz's Deli.  The long lines at the counter sometimes turn me off to the experience but it's worth the wait for one of these delicious hot dogs. These all beef dogs have a super snappy casing that keep the meat juicy and totally worthy of the "Best in New York" title on the menu.  My dining companion was sad to hear they don't have any relish but a side of sour pickles showed up in it's place. The Knish's here are decent but I would save my carbs for Yohan Schimmel's down the street. A better choice is the famed Pastrami Sandwich piled high with some of the smokiest meat imaginable.  Complete the meal with a classic New York Egg Creme, listed on the menu as "Heaven on Earth". One sip of this frothy chocolate shake and it really does feel like your floating above the world just a bit. Katz's Delicatessen

Pastrami at Katz’s

Image
Two Sunday's ago was spent drinking beers and watching football in the East Village. It was a happy day- none of my teams are in the playoffs so I couldn't get upset at the end and Arizona halted Philadelphia from possibly winning both of sports greatest achievements in one year. so all was good with the world. After multiple beers we decided it was time for some serious food. And by serious food I mean Katz’s delicatessen. Katz’s is a NYC institution known most famously from the orgasm scene in When Harry met Sally. It is also well known however for its Pastrami sandwich. Now I have never been a big fan of pastrami. The first time I ever had it was about 5 years ago at a work function.. One of those crappy midtown lunch kind of places brought in a bunch of sandwiches and I ended up with the pastrami. It was cold, dry and pretty much tasted like a peppery piece of ham. I was not impressed. I’ve had it a few more times since then and the result was usually the same so I kind of ...
