When I started this blog so many many years ago my very first post was about this tiny restaurant in East Aurora, NY the  Bar Bill .  My photos were absolutely terrible; the camera on my then flip phone had about one pixel, but my love for the incredible food at this spot was real.  So here's an update on this classic Western New York Spot on the 10th anniversary of NYC Tastes. People always argue over the best wings in Buffalo.  The contenders range from the birthplace of the wing The Anchor Bar, to Obama favorite  Duff's  but most people I know (at least those that I care to hang out with :) all agree the best place for wings is the Bar Bill.    They make all kinds of flavors from Honey Dijon and Tereyaki to Zesty Honey Pepper and Cajun but the best are always the Medium Style Buffalo Wing and the delicious Honey Butter BBQ. One of the newest bars to hit the LES scene is Bar Goto a tiny  Japanese style cocktail den  helmed by Kenta Goto a Pegu Club vet. The cozy space is perfect for enjoying a few cocktails like the Yuzu Calpico Fizz adorned with a soft pink marshmallow... . ...diving into a classic Japanese Okonomi-yaki... ...or devouring some incredible Miso Wings tossed with toasted black sesame seed and scallion.  These are executed perfectly with just the right amount of heat and sweetness with an ultra crisp exterior. My first experience at Bonnie's was a bit disappointing.  The Beef on Weck was right on par with Buffalo standards but the wings seemed dry and overcooked.  I'd heard so much hype about this place I chalked it up to an off night and vowed to return.  Last weekend I finally got a chance to stop in again and let me say they totally redeemed themselves! These wings were excellent- crisp, snappy casing on the outside, plump juicy meat on the inside.  The sauce was the perfect balance of butter and spice with just enough heat to make your lips tingle.  These were better than some of the wings I've had in Buffalo even.  Add on bonus points for their delicious fries. These don't look like much but they were skinny and crisp with a spicy chipotle mayo on the side.  So I'm happy to report that Bonnie's Grill does indeed ROCK!   I can't wait to come back here again for another round of wings and weck. I am always on the lookout for some decent wings in this city. I’ve come to terms with the fact that no place will ever have wings as good as Buffalo and that’s fine. Just give me some decent sized wings with a tasty sauce and that’ll tide me over till my next trip home. 1849 is one of those “tide me over” places. Located among the slew of crappy bars on Bleeker street, 1849 is definitely not a place I recommend coming to late at night. I was only here once past 8:00 and it was filled to the brim with groups of loud, obnoxious drunk people.  However during the day, 1849 just may be one of my favorite places to stop for a quick bite to eat and to catch some sports. They have a decent amount of televisions and have 20 cent wings every day from 3:00-6:00.  Mr. T and I swung by just last week and got a couple of Hefeweizens and shared an order of their hot wings.
