NYC Beer Week 2016

Today marks the kickoff for the 8th annual NYC Beer Week!  It's absolutely amazing to think of all that's happened over these last eight years.  When this began there were only a handful of NYC breweries like Kelso, Brooklyn Brewery and Sixpoint.  Now the city is absolutely booming with local beers from the likes of Finback, Other Half, Threes and Third Rail; and the list just keeps getting bigger each day.  There are so many incredible events scheduled. Here's a few of my picks for the week: Saturday February 20th A Taste of Hill Farmstead at  Fool's Gold - S o the very first event I'm really excited about just happens to be with beers from our neighbor to the northeast.  Although these may not be local, the beer community is all about supporting each other so that's okay in my book.  Fools Gold will have 15 taps dedicated to this amazing Vermont brewery including rarities like Madness & Solitude, Ephraim and Shirley Mae. Happy Friday Cocktail!

It’s the weekend again! Phew! I need a break for sure. What’s better than unwinding with a delicious cocktail. I was feeling a little James Bondish the other night, so I swung by the Redhead for a Vesper. They skip the vodka in this classic drink and go straight with Beefeater Gin, white lillet, triple sec and fresh lemon. I loved the addition of lemon juice and triple sec; it really helped take the edge off the gin and made this a delightful little drink. Cheers!

We had heard so much about the Redhead we figured it was high time we check it out. The Redhead has an old classic, warm kind of feeling to it. The rickety wooden bar and low, dim lighting (which is why the pictures are so dark) give it a certain charm. Kind of like putting on my favorite old sweatshirt it just had a comfortable feel about it. We started off with some appetizers for the table of the famous Bacon Brittle and Sausage pretzel. Now the brittle isn’t really a brittle. It’s more just peanuts tossed with some molasses and little pieces of bacon. That being said however it was pretty awesome. If this is the nut mix you’re serving at your next party be sure to put me on the invite list! Salty, sweet and incredibly addictive I kind of wish I wasn’t splitting them with the whole table. The sausage and pretzel was really good as well. The warm p...
