Paris- Poilâne Bakery & Pierre Hermé

Image
Paris mornings mean one thing~ pastry time at two of my favorite spots Poilâne Bakery & Pierre Hermé.  I almost always begin at  Poilâne  for a fresh loaf of sourdough bread and a cinnamon dusted Apple Tart. Then over to Pierre Hermé for a glazed Rose Croissant, Raspberry Tart and my absolute favorite the 2000 Feuilles studded with praline & hazelnut.  These delightful pastries are always fantastic, but enjoying them on our patio under the bright blue sky just made everything that much better. Our Last Day in Paris

I woke up Saturday morning and had one thing on my mind- more treats! It was our last full day in Paris and I knew one last stop to Pierre Herme was in order. This time I went for the 2000 Feuilles which is a masterpiece in and of itself. Look at the flaky layers of pastry alternating between different kinds of creamy praline mousse with a crispy caramelized praline top. And of course I had to go back for some more macarons. My favorite of this bunch was easily the Olive Oil & Vanilla. The flavor was so smooth and light. I was honestly sad I didn’t buy a whole box of just this flavor alone. Luckily I enjoyed the Café, Mogador and Pistachio as well. The only one I didn’t really care for was the chocolate which was too bitter and intense for my tastes. After my breakfast treats we walked over to Notre Dame and around that area. Then we decided we’d had enough of touring. After 10 days of constant walking and eating we decided to cut out the walking and have some...

First Day in Paris

Tuesday morning we awoke, checked out and took the tube over to the Eurostar station. Last time we were at this station, I had ridiculously heavy croissant that started out a really rough food day. So rough I ended up on the bathroom floor sick for about 8 hours in Brussels. That being said we went past the croissant place and instead stopped at the Betjeman Arms where I decided to order a proper English breakfast. I had been wary of stomach woes all week and now I had a dish of runny green eggs, strange grotesque slab bacon, a fat sausage, stewed tomatoes and beans. WTF! This station had it out for me! I don’t know what I was thinking with my order but I’ll tell you I enjoyed the toast that’s about it. Mr T loved his Bacon sandwich but I honestly think he was still a little drunk from the night before so you can’t believe him. After our meal we leisurely strolled about, a little to leisurely since all of a sudden they called final boarding for our train and we had to m...
