Kyu Miami

Mr. T and I were in Florida last weekend, trading in our annual Hunahpu festival in Fort Lauderdale for Wakefest in Miami.  Of course all of our beercations usually turn into foodcations and this one was no different; first stop Asian inspired Kyu Miami in the Wynwood District.

The dining room happened to be closed when we arrived late afternoon (Kyu was celebrating their 2nd anniversary) so we grabbed a seat at the bar and dove into their happy hour menu of $5.00 "bites" like this amazing Roasted Cauliflower with goat cheese and shishito-herb vinaigrette...

....and this enormous Korean Fried Chicken breast served with butter braised chicory and a creamy chipotle sauce.  Both of these dishes were fantastic.  We mixed pungent goat cheese and herbaceous vinaigrette together which gave  a bright, rich flavor to the roasted cauliflower while the outer casing of the chicken was so crispy and well seasoned it could rival any NYC Korean fried chicken spot.

Pork and Shitake Gyozas arrived next with bonito flakes dancing in excitement on top. These lightly fried pockets of dough were crispy on the outside, tender on the inside with a ponzu truffle sauce that was so delicious, the entire world could have melted away and I wouldn't have noticed.  All that mattered at that very moment was that incredible sauce.

For our main course we split the Florida Red Snapper in a brown butter miso sauce.  This fish was perfection; fork tender with that addictive sweet, salty miso sauce that actually reminded me of Nobu's Miso Cod but with more butter.  The only thing I didn't enjoy was the accompanying array of mint and cilantro seasoning, two of my most disliked herbs.

Throughout the meal we sipped on Pink Puppy cocktails, a blend of Hanger 1 Vodka, fresh lychee juice, yuzu and bitters.   This meal was incredible; so incredible that we came back the very next day for lunch and did it all over again.

We closed out the late lunch over at J Wakefield Brewery (Just three blocks away) with one of my favorite berliner weisse of all time DFPF.  It was a pretty perfect start to the weekend.
