NYC Tastes

Watch out London and Paris here we come. Mr. T and I are heading out for our honeymoon and I have high hopes it will be filled with delicious food and drink. I did some research and planning (although not nearly as much as I wanted too damn work gets I the way) so hopefully we can see and do everything we can. So far our food/drink itinerary is as follows: London Dinners (confirmed w/ Reservations)- J. Sheekeys, St. John, The Bull and Last Hopeful Food Stops The Wolsey and National Arts Club for breakfast, lunch at the Corner Room, fish and chips at the Golden Hind, cupcakes and wine at Fortnum Mason, beers at Southampton Arms and Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Pub. Saturday Mr. T and I headed over to Governor’s Island for the 2nd annual Pig Island event. Governor’s Island is awesome so it was a nice excuse to spend a day there and eat some meat! We started out at the Clerkenwell stand for a Pork Belly Porchetta slider with candied Bacon. Onto my favorite Dinosaur BBQ for a Pulled Pork slider Over to Print for a Maple Bacon Sticky bun Into a long line for JoeDoe’s Roasted Pork Butt Cubano with shoulder bacon, cracklins, swiss, homemade pickles and a side of chili. Pork Schnitzel Sandwich with pickled red onion and black pepper-apple chutney from Mary Queen of Scots We had a ton more dishes as well but I have to say at the end of the day nothing really stood out. Question- Where is the biggest slice of pizza you can get? Answer- Portofino’s Pizza up in Goldens Bridge Look at this monster! This is on a regular sized diner plate and it still flops over the edge. These slices are seriously bigger than me head. And it’s not all look, this pizza is delicious too. It’s done in classic NY style with a thin, crispy crust and delicious char on the bottom. The size helps out with the novelty of it all- this is two slices in one regular pizza box. That’s a lot of pie! It’s Mr. T’s childhood favorite and I have to agree. If you find yourself in Goldens Bridge this a great place to grab a slice before jumping on the train back to the city. It's a sad day today..and words can't describe the feeling. Mr. T and I went down to Battery Park yesterday to pay respects and looked at the flags representing all those who perished that day. It went on and on... Always Remember, Never Forget.

I have always wanted to try out One If By Land, Two if By Sea. It’s filled with history and billed one of the most romantic restaurants in NYC. So when a friend asked me to dinner I happily obliged! Her husband was away on business and mine…well mine was busy as well (playing video games and eating ramen I suppose). So we decided this was our little romantic ladies night out! Walking up to the hidden little house it’s very cute. I must have walked by a thousand times on my way to Barrow Street Ale house. Looking back I definitely wish I could have made a turn into here rather than going into their beer soaked floors. There was a man playing the piano up front and fresh roses filled the air. We were seated on the main floor with a view of the beautiful garden outside. Between the flickering candles, old carriage walls and cozy tables, I can easily see what this place gets billed for its romance. We ordered a bottle of wine and they started us off with bread. I wasn’t going to brave the insanity. I told myself to wait two more weeks and go to the real deal in Paris. I reminded myself that macarons are available other places that are also fabulous. I demanded myself to stop thinking about the colorful puffy delights… Then all of a sudden I found myself in line outside the shop with tons of other sweet obsessed individuals. Sometimes I just can’t stop myself. The main draw here is obviously the macarons and you’ll have plenty of time to think about which of the 12 flavors you want while you wait in line. Lots of time! As I waited the line roped around I had a chance to smell some of their wonderful candles (all I could think when I saw these was where were you last week during my frantic hurricane candle search). And finally I was at the front and ready to order my macarons. I decided to get a box of eight which came to about $21.00.
