Gramercy Tavern

If I could celebrate every special occasion in life with a seafood platter and a magnum of wine, I would be an insanely happy girl.  Maybe that's not one of the best "goals" to have in life (don't worry I have others) but it's a fact I realized last month when Mr. T and I stopped into Gramercy Tavern for a little celebration.  Being that there were only two of us we skipped the magnum (obviously Mr. T's decision) but went all in for the Tavern's incredible new Seafood Platter.

Big, briny oysters and green apple studded scallops filled the first tier with Red Snapper Ceviche, creamy Lobster Salad and Miso Marinated Shrimp rounded out the second tier.  Everything was wonderful, the highlight being those delicate miso marinated shrimp that practically melted they were so tender.

For entrees Mr. T chose the Wagyu Meatloaf with whipped potatoes and roasted vegetables. I had suggested he not order this dish; my mind filled with horrible visions of ketchup laced meat loaf from my youth, but it was in fact delicious.  The meat was insanely rich but tender, the bright veggies giving the dish a nice balance.

In fact I enjoyed it even than my Cavatelli which was inundated by too many chewy mushrooms.

For dessert a light, creamy Chocolate Pudding Cake with toasted almonds, sweet cream and buttered pecans.

No such thing as too many mushrooms...! That seafood platter/tower certainly is dramatic, looks like a fantastic addition to the menu. I’m overdue for another visit to GT, it was one of my first fine dining experiences in NYC so many years ago when i first came to the city and it has remained a favorite destination ever since (although I usually am in the tavern since the longer multi course meals are few and far between).

HAHA! I have some texture issues and these mushrooms hit every single button :) However the seafood platter was perfect. I think it's the first time they have ever offered anything more than just oysters and clams for raw bar items. They also had the Gramercy Burger listed which was always an off menu, limited plate in the past. Maybe they will create a veggie version one day!
